Who belongs to the SAP Family?

What does an SAP consultant do?
An SAP consultant helps customers to understand how to optimally use and integrate SAP software into the business processes of different departments, including accounting, controlling, purchasing, sales, production and human resources. Consultants usually specialize in a particular area in which they are already well versed, e.g. accounting. Their job is to guide customers through the standard processes provided by an SAP software and may integrate additional requirements if requested by the customer. He or she then sets up the software to the customer’s specific needs, tests the various functions alongside the client, aids to train the end users and finally organizes the migration from the previous IT system to the newly adapted SAP solution.
What do I need to be able to do to enter SAP consulting?
You can join the #SAPFamily if you have at least 2 years of work experience in any of the following business functions: HR, sales, purchasing, logistics, accounting or some others. If you also happen to be IT-savvy or familiar with one of the processes mentioned above, you have some of the most important skills to be an SAP consultant. You may also have experience in consulting on other topics and may be familiar with products from other market players.
What skills will make me successful in SAP consulting?
Analytical skills, strong communication skills, ability to work in a team, willingness to perform, self-reflection, resilience, flexibility, empathy.
How do I learn about SAP software?
Depending on your previous knowledge and your focus topic, your new employer will create a training plan for you. You will attend SAP trainings or get access to the SAP Learning Hub to go through selected trainings at your own pace. The goal is that after 2-4 months, you will have received the SAP certification applicable to your field.
However, you can only really learn SAP in practice. That’s why you’ll start your first customer project after just a few weeks, where you’ll build up your SAP knowledge through on-the-job training. Experienced colleagues working on the project will help you gradually grow into the role.
What do I need to know about the monetary remuneration?
If you are a career changer, be accommodating when it comes to salary. Don’t expect to get the same salary from the start as a colleague with proven technical expertise.
Be prepared for the fact that SAP partner companies or SAP themselves will need to invest into your training, since your current experience will not be a one-to-one match for their desired role. You will be seen as a newcomer for the first six months. You can communicate your understanding of this directly. You have to expect to give up about 15 to 30 per cent of the expected salary in the beginning. You can communicate that this initial grouping will be lifted after the onboarding phase.
What does my onboarding look like?
As a career changer, your previous experience will be taken into consideration in your onboarding. We will work with you to develop an individual onboarding roadmap. The goal of onboarding is to build upon your existing knowledge and to teach you the specific module knowledge and systems. For this purpose, we will use existing training material. In addition, your supervisor and fixed contact persons from the project team will be available to you during your onboarding. To implement the theoretical knowledge as quickly as possible, you will quickly join a project to start executing smaller tasks – according to your previous knowledge.
